The Ladybug Program

Empowering Women

About The Ladybug Program

The Ladybug Program was created in 2020 with the aim to support women and teens in Contra Costa County.

We provide menstrual health education, period supplies, and support to those who need it in our Community.

With the collaboration of the founder and director, Stephanie Prescott, and The Rotary Club of Concord, the Ladybug Program seeks to eliminate Period Poverty In Contra Costa County. Period Poverty refers to the silent but predominate crisis wherein females struggle to afford/attain period supplies and menstrual health education. We find this crisis unacceptable and we therefore are taking major steps to address Period Poverty in our community.  The Ladybug Program enables females to have free and complete access to period supplies.

What we do

We Provide Ladybug Bags

We source and assemble ‘Ladybug Bags’.

Each bag contains: tampons, menstrual pads, feminine wipes, disposal bags, and educational flyers (in English and Spanish) regarding healthy menstruation and tips.

Ladybug bags are cute, discreet, and contain supplies for one month.

We Bring People Together

The Ladybug Program works closely with our community.

Often, our program partners with local groups to assemble our Ladybug bags. We usually make from 400 to 1500 bags at each event. We partner with student’s leadership clubs,  Rotary Clubs, city Community Volunteer Events (Moraga, Pleasant Hill and Lafayette), Girl Scouts, local kids sports teams, and adult disability groups,  just to name a few.

We have many outreach opportunities and always welcome volunteers.

See Contact page to let us know if you’re interested in volunteering!

We Serve Our Community

We serve many Contra Costa community organizations.

Once we assemble our period supply bags, we proudly donate them to our community partners for distribution.

We benefit programs such as Contra Costa Health,  Monument Crisis Center, numerous local public schools, Crisis Centers, Shelters for the Unhoused, public libraries, and public resource centers.

The Ladybug Program distributes  between 200- 600 + period supply bags each month.

We Educate

Period Poverty is a complex issue that will take time to eradicate.  To succeed, we need not only to have menstrual supplies available to all, but we also need to have access to reliable sources of information.

The topic of menstruation is one riddled with stigma, taboos, misinformation and shame, often leading to fear and poor decision making.

The Ladybug Program educates. We distribute an instructional booklet designed for girls 8-18 years old called FACTS.PERIOD. (in English and Spanish).  It is an easy to understand, comprehensive Menstrual Health Management guide written by the program’s Director and Health Educator,  Stephanie Prescott.

Menstrual Health Management

The Ladybug Program offer many ways to educate the community about menstruation.

* We lead workshops.  Our workshops are multifaceted. We present a slideshow about basic female physiology, puberty, and period information. We hand out a take-home booklet that  accompanies the powerpoint so the girls can follow along and take notes if they want. We offer our presentations in English and Spanish. Our workshops are perfect for preteen/teen groups such as schools, girl scouts/brownies, sports teams, etc.

*We distribute FACTS.PERIOD. booklets to schools, libraries, wellness centers, and resource centers.

Our Partners

We distribute our Ladybug bags to many programs throughout Contra Costa County.

These partners dispense our bags directly to those who need them.
